ZA! / Schnaak and the Rundu Choir *European Tour* / DJ Jimmy Trash
ZA! is a band from Barcelona composed by 2 people and more than 2 instruments (drums, guitar, keyboard, voice, trumpet, kalimba, sampler).
Their music combines african beats, noise, thick distortions, vocal loops, free jazz, sounds from the shepherds of Tuva, balinese polyryhtms, math rock, dadaism, drones…
ZA! have played about 300 shows including acts in international festivals (South by South West, Primavera Sound, Sonar Festival, Eurosonic, Trans Musicales, Milhoes de Festa, Fusion Fest, Zappanale, Canadian Music Week), tours in USA, UK, Brazil, Russia, Portugal, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Switzerland and Spain, and sharing shows and tours either with noise bands (Lightning Bolt, Yellow Swans, Extra Life, Zu, etc), rock bands (El Guincho, Delorean, And You will Know us by the Trail of dead, Mark Eitzel, etc) or free jazz artists (Peter Brötzmann, Paal Nilssen Love, etc).
Tonight, ZA! plays music off their new release WANANANAI –a compendium of genres hard to imagine and hard to explain without the listening experience. ZA! have extended their musical spectrum, adding Cuban jazz vibes mixed with post-rock (“El Calentito”), Jamaican dancehall mixed with grunge (“Súbeme el Monitor”), intelligent dance music mixed with industrial noise (“Tueste Natural”), or balinese melodies mixed with Black Sabbath (“Cha Cha Cha”). They even dare to perform a hip hop song (“Mr.Reality”) that could fit in the first albums of A Tribe Called Quest. And what is more suprising: This all seems to make sense.

SchnAAk and the Rundu Choir is the electro-sibling of the German racket duo SchnAAk (Mathias Jähnig / Johannes Döpping). Tonight they perform live their new EP “No Security through Numbers,” their first output.
The compositions are all about minimal movement, fragmented melodies and a different understanding of harmony. The acoustic pattern is composed of analogue synthesizers, prepared guitars, heavy analogue drumming, lofi samples and cheap plugins.
In 2012 Jähnig, who is also responsible for all things visual, had the opportunity to live one year among the !Kung of Northern Namibia & Southern Angola – a very special experience. “No Security through Numbers” addresses the challenge to understand a completely different outlook on life and the process of allowing oneself to get closer to the foreign.
