Conducted Impro with ZA!

Improvisation is perhaps the element that provides the most natural and spontaneous musical act. In music learning there’s implicit improvisation, exploration and enjoyment of the present moment, but as we internalize the structures and musical forms there is a loss of this live music feeling that comes from here and now.

In this workshop we intend to enhance the musicians’ spontaneous musical expression and to develop the ability of interplaying and improvising with other musicians.

In order to achieve these goals, we’ll do different exercises, games and live compositions, based on a gestural sign language that the musician plays freely. This language combines our own strategies and signs with the teachings of 3 improvisational languages: Butch Morris’s Conduction, Walter Thompson’s Soundpainting and John Zorn’s Cobra.

The aim is to promote the enjoyment of musical activity as the best way to generate the optimal situation of naturalness and concentration that is required in a genuine improvisation.
